NFL Prospect Preview: Alabama OT D.J Fluker

Wednesday, Apr, 24 2013

The thing that stands out most about Fluker is his size.  At 339-pounds, he is by far the heaviest of the top of the board tackles in the draft.  Playing at Alabama can't hurt him either as he was facing NFL caliber defensive lineman throughout his career.  Fluker looks the part of an NFL tackle, the question will be can he play the part.

Here is my coversation with Kirk McNair of BamaMagazine.com on Fluker

If Fluker happened to slip to the Packers at #26, he would be a solid choice.  Green Bay has Bryan Bulaga at right tackle, though he has played at left tackle at times.  Marshall Newhouse is kind of a wild card.  Though he played every snap in 2012, there is questions to whether an upgrade could be made.  Newhouse is also in the final year of his contact.  OT is not a likely spot for Green Bay, but it would be understood.

NFL Prospect Preview: Stanford TE Zach Ertz

Wednesday, Apr, 24 2013

Zach Ertz is one of the many members of the Stanford football team that benefited from the team's success in 2012.  In 2010 & 2011, Ertz caught a combined 43-passes for 536-yards.  He nearly doubled that production in 2012 catching 69-passes for just a hair under 900-yards.  He also found the endzone a career best 6-times in last season.  Ertz, a converted WR, has the versatility that a lot of teams are looking for these days with the increased emphasis on the pass in today's NFL.

Here is my conversation with David Lombardi of TheBootleg.com on Zach Ertz

Ertz and Tyler Eifert of Notre Dame appear to be first round worthy.  Green Bay is in an interesting position at TE this year.  Jermichael Finley is playing in the final year of his deal and many believe there is no chance that the Packers will resign him.  Andrew Quarless is still trying to return from an injury, Tom Crabtree is now in Tampa, and D.J Williams and Ryan Taylor have yet to step up on offense.  The Packers could go in this direction, however, I think they have far greater needs to address.

NFL Prospect Preview: USC WR Robert Woods

Wednesday, Apr, 24 2013

Matt Barkley wasn't the only USC player to see his stock slip based on 2012.  Robert Woods seemed like a lock to be a 1st round pick, maybe even top half, heading into last season.  After 111-catches for nearly 1300-yards and 15 scores in 2011, Woods totaled only 76-catches for less than 850-yards and 11-scores.  He could be a steal in the 2nd round.

Here is my conversation with Dan Weber of USCFootball.com on USC WR Robert Woods

WR may be more of a luxury than anything for Green Bay.  However, with Jermichael Finley and James Jones entering the final years of their contracts, I wouldn't be shocked if the Packers took one this year.  And when I say take one, I am talking early.  I am not sure about the first round but if Woods was available in the 2nd round, it would be great value!

NFL Prospect Preview: Stanford RB Stepfan Taylor

Wednesday, Apr, 24 2013

A lot of what you can say about Wisconsin RB Montee Ball, you can say about Stepfan Taylor.  Though he doesn't have the career numbers as Ball, Taylor was every bit as important to the Stanford offense as Ball was to the Badgers in 2012.  Taylor is the model of consistency and may be the "solid" choice of RB group this year.

Here is my conversation with David Lombardi of TheBootleg.com talking about Stanford RB Stepfan Taylor

Taylor would make a lot of sense for the Packers.  If Green Bay is going to draft a RB, the consistency of Taylor could be something appetizing to them.  I don't see Taylor going in the frst two rounds and as I have stated with the other RBs, I don't think the Packers should address RB until the third at the earliest.  Taylor may be the perfect pick in the 3rd if the Packers want a RB.  Who knows, he could be available in the 4th round.

NFL Prospect Preview: UCLA RB Jonathan Franklin

Wednesday, Apr, 24 2013

Jonathan Franklin had a huge season in 2012 helping him move up draft boards.  Franklin was #7 on the depth chart as a Freshman, but is now just a few days away from latching onto an NFL team.  His all-around ability could be something that sets him a part from the rest of the field.

Here is my conversation with Ryan Kartje of the Orange County Register on UCLA RB Jonathan Franklin

I believe Franklin would be a good fit in Green Bay.  His pass catching ability (33 in 2012) could make him a dangerous weapon in the Packers offense.  Not to mention he compiled over 1700-yards on the ground.  Franklin could be a good value if available in the 3rd round.
