Feeling better?

Heading into this past football weekend, Wisconsin Badger and Green Bay Packer fans had more collective “concern” about their teams than any time in recent memory.  Wisconsin was off to a tough 3-2 start but their record did not necessarily reflect how the season was going.  The Packers were 2-3 and going up against a 5-0 team that many had pegged as the favorite in the AFC; 2-4 may have been too big of a hole to dig out of. However, convincing wins by both teams may be enough to turn the confidence around for many.

The Badgers win over Purdue isn’t necessarily a “season saver” for the small percent of fans who believe its National Title or bust, but it put Wisconsin in position to obtain their number goal of the year; Rose Bowl.  By taking out Purdue, Wisconsin has, essentially, a two game lead in the Leaders Division of the Big Ten which would guarantee them a spot in the Big Ten Title Game in Indy.  Winner of that game goes to the Rose Bowl.  It helps that Ohio State and Penn State are ineligible, but if Wisconsin made it to Pasadena for a 3rd straight year, feelings will definitely change about the year.

The Packers situation was a little more interesting when it came to season outlook.  I felt that a lost for Green Bay would have been too big of a hole to dig out of considering what the rest of the schedule looked like.  Anyway, I felt a win would be the turning point of the season that put this team where I originally thought they would be; the Super Bowl.  Now, there is a long way to go and a lot of capable NFC teams that will be in the fight but nothing is guaranteed.  So the win puts them back in the conversation.  Obviously a long way to go but if they can repeat the performance from Sunday night in the next three games (St. Louis, Jacksonville, Arizona), the Packers will be just fine heading into the bye.  Again, they have to continue that what they started.  This whole “Aaron Rodgers quitted the critics” notion is nice, but if they don’t follow throw the heat will come back twice as hard!

A good Wisconsin sports weekend and a building point for two teams whose fans expect the most!  As is well once again in the dairy state.
