NFL Prospect Preview: Georgia DT John Jenkins

Thursday, Apr, 25 2013

Beefy.  At 346-pounds, Jenkins is the biggest of the defensive lineman in the top tier which could make him an ideal fit in a 3-4 defense.  Jenkins will have an easy time eating space but will he be able to control his weight?  That remains to be seen.  Jenkins was once in the 370-380 range.  The "lighter" he gets, the more disruptive he can be as he is athletic for a big guy.

Here is my conversation with Jonathan Branch of DawgPost.com on Jenkins

Like all the defensive tackles in this range, it would not be a shock to see Jenkins in Green and Gold.  Jenkins, more than the others, could put the future plans of Ted Thompson at the position into focus.  B.J Raji is in a contract year and Ryan Pickett's career is winding down.  Jenkins, as a NT, could be the future if the Packers go that way.

NFL Prospect Preview: UNC DT Sylvester Williams

Thursday, Apr, 25 2013

Sylvester Williams is another reason why many have been speaking highly of the the defensive lineman available in this draft.  Williams does have a couple more questions than some of the guys teams will be debating over on the d-line, however, when someone does start to come into their potential, it can be a great thing.  Weight could be an issue but dedication is there.  Said to have good "pad level."

Here is my conversation with Greg Barnes of Inside Carolina on Williams

Williams was a popular choice Thursday morning on mock drafts for the Packers.  Most notably, Bob McGinn with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.  Williams would add another big body to the depth chart at a position that the Packers have numbers, but may be looking for an upgrade.  I could see the Packers pulling the trigger if he is there.

NFL Prospect Preview: UNC RB Giovani Bernard

Wednesday, Apr, 24 2013

Giovani Bernard is another of the 2nd tier running backs in this draft that will be in the "pick who fits" category.  Bernard has great breakaway speed setting himself up for the big play.  He was a pretty big prospect signing that left some Tar Heel fans always wanting more.  Not sure he will be an every down back in the league but he can definately help some one.

Here is my conversation with Greg Barnes of Inside Carolina on Bernard

I am not sure I see the Packers going with Bernard if he is there in the 3rd round and they are looking at RB.  His size seems comparable to Dujaun Harris so Bernard may not be enough of a change up.  His pass catching and pass blocking could be too big of question marks although he has made some progress in those spots.

NFL Prospect Preview: Alabama OG Chance Warmack

Wednesday, Apr, 24 2013

Warmack is just another in the long line of Alabama offensive lineman who will/could start for years in the NFL.  When looking at the success of Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy, the big guys up front is where is all starts and Warmack is right there in the mix.  At  6'2" and 317-pounds, Warmack is expected to be one of the top guards taken this year.

Here is my conversation with Kirk McNair of BamaMagazine.com on Warmack

Warmack would be a "weird" pick for the Packers, not necessarily in a bad way, though. T.J Lang has played some tackle over the years so maybe a move could be in the works if the Packers feel Warmack is the best way to go in the first round.  Green Bay also has a history of moving around offensive lineman as Marshall Newhouse was drafted as a guard and is now at tackle, and they also tried tackles Derrek Sherrod and Bryan Bulaga at guard early on. Chances say no but with TT, you never know.

NFL Prospect Preview: Syracuse OT Justin Pugh

Wednesday, Apr, 24 2013

Pugh appears to be a solid prospect.  People around the Syracuse program have nothing but good things to say about Pugh.  His on field play was noticed more in 2012, a lot of it because of the rise of QB Ryan Nassib.  He did have a shoulder injury and has "short arms" which seem to be keeping him from entering the top level of OT prospects.

Here is my conversation with John Garcia Jr. of Fox Sports Next on Pugh

As I mention in my conversation with John, I am hearing a lot of the same things I am hearing from Bulaga.  If you look at Bulaga's career thus far, the 2nd coming of Bulaga won't be a bad thing for whomever drafts them.  I am not sure Pugh has the upside for the Packers to spend a 1st round pick on him and it is unlikely he makes down to them in the 2nd round.
