Brewers acquire Parra from Arizona

The Milwaukee Brewers were able to add some depth to their bench before Thursday’s non-waiver trade deadline.
General Manager Doug Melvin swung a deal with Arizona to acquire OF Gerardo Parra for a pair of minor league prospects; Mitch Haniger and Anthony Banda.

Parra is a two-time Gold Glove winner with a career .274 batting average in his six big league seasons.  He is hitting a career low .259 this year.

Haniger was with Milwaukee’s Double-A affiliate Huntsville hitting .255 with 10 home runs.  Banda was in Appleton with the Timber Rattlers, Milwaukee’s Low-A affiliate.  He was 6-6 with a 3.66 ERA for the Rattlers.

To make room for Parra, the team optioned OF Logan Schaefer to Triple-A Nashville.

Teams can still make trades until August 31st, but players would have to clear waivers in first.
