House making noise early

Training Camp is only a few days old, so players standing out at practice may not mean much in the end.  However, for Packer cornerback Davon House, a great to start to the season could go a long way.

House is entering this fourth season with the Packers.  The 2011 fourth round pick has experienced many highs and many lows during his tenure in Green Bay.  Head Coach Mike McCarthy points to this year as being a high.

“Davon House, clearly having his best year here as a pro,” McCarthy proclaimed Wednesday.  “This is coming from what he has done since the offseason and some of the things he really focused on, things he knew he could improve on.  You saw that since April.”

Injuries hampered House early in his career.  He fought through a hamstring injury in his first training camp and appeared in only two games that season.  In 2012, it appeared he was fighting for a starting spot but a shoulder injury in preseason got in the way.

Last season, House saw some time in the defense but was most noted for his play on special teams.  He recorded his only career interception in week 7 against the Cleveland Browns.

“I feel like the coaches are leaning on me this year and they expect big things out of me this year, as I do for myself,” House explained.  “I’ll just continue to keep battling, continue to get better and everything will play itself out.”

This offseason, House changed up the workout routine in hopes of making that next step.

“Last year was a big year, but I say this offseason, working with some elite guys, (Darrell) Revis and Logan Ryan, I learned to just always have confidence.  Every time I go up there, I just tell myself these guys aren’t going to catch the ball.  That’s just my mindset.”

House is also entering the final year of his rookie deal so he may be playing for his NFL future.  That has played into his approach to the season.

“Yeah, it does. It’s either I gonna be here next March, or I’m gonna be gone. So, if I want to be here, I gotta make some plays and change some stuff up.”
