Peppers enjoying move to linebacker

As the Packers have begun training camp, a lot of attention has been paid to the guy wearing number 56.  Julius Peppers joined the team this offseason as a free agent in hopes of bringing an immediate impact to the defense.

After spending 12-years as a defensive end in the NFL, Peppers is making the transition to outside linebacker with the Packers.  The Opportunity to play the new position was one of the reason Peppers chose Green Bay in free agency.

“That was one of the things that attracted me to come here, outside of all the other things they have going for themselves here,” Peppers said Monday.  “ A chance to be able to stand up, move around, drop, rush, play in different positions was one of the things that made me want to come here in the first place.”

With so many eyes on Peppers in training camp, the perception may be that he is new to this.  The three-time All-Pro doesn’t see it like that because he has been with the Packers since March.

“I’ve been here for a couple of months now, a few months actually.  It’s like I’ve been doing it for a while so I’m growing accustom to it.”

Even with a few months in the system, there are new things popping up every day to challenge the veteran.

“I’m still having a little bit of a learning curve with some of the coverages and stuff, but that’s going to come as we practice more.  I’m having fun with that and looking forward to practicing more.”

Peppers and his teammates will enjoy an off day Tuesday after three straight days on the practice field.  They will get back to work Wednesday morning at 8:20 AM.
