Baseball races heating up as season winds down (WIAA)

As the 2013-2014 school year nears an end, so does the spring baseball season.  Many area teams will be taking the field in critical games over the next couple of days.  Here is a look at the area conference races:

Appleton North (10-2), Oshkosh North (10-2), and Kimberly (9-3) find themselves in the 3-team sprint for a conference title.  Appleton North won their first nine conference games before falling to Oshkosh North and Appleton East last week.  Oshkosh North has been consistent and is riding a 6-game winning streak.  After struggling out of the gates, Kimberly has rattled off 8-straight wins to work their way back in the conversation.   Kimberly games with both Oshkosh North and Appleton North (2) left on the schedule which could determine how things play out, though a lot of ball is left to be played.  The Appleton North game

Five teams are mathematically alive to get their hands on at least of share of the conference title though it is likely coming down to three.  At the top are Waupaca, Freedom, and Ripon who all sit at 10-4.  Each has two more league games. The big series will be between Waupaca and Ripon.  The two saw their Monday game washed away and still have another game scheduled for Friday.   With Freedom's final two games coming against Berlin, who sits at just 1-11 in conference, a 2-0 finish for Ripon or Waupaca may be needed.  Xavier (8-5) and FVL (6-5) would need to win out and get some help along the way to add their names to the mix.

it’s a two team race in the Bay as Hortonville and Denmark sit on top of the league with 11-2 records and only 3-games left in the season.  Hortonville still has games with Luxemburg-Casco (6-5), Oconto Falls (4-8) and New London (3-8.  Denmark has a pair with Marinette (5-8) and one with Shawno (4-9) left on the docket.

The Olympian will be a bit more difficult to map out.  St. Mary's Central (9-3) currently stands on top of the standings.  However, Chilton (6-2) has the same winning percentage but has half their league games remaining.  The two teams play Thursday, May 29th in the regular season finally.  Also, Reedsville (7-4), Wrightstown (7-5), and Roncalli (3-2) could play into things once all the games get played.
