Weeks to see more more at-bats

When Brewers Manager Ron Roenicke wrote out his lineup card Saturday, he tabbed Rickie Weeks as his starting second baseman for the first time since April 26th.  Weeks was hitting just .172 after that game and found himself in a bench role.

Over next 12-games, Weeks appeared as a pinch hitter 8-times going 4 of 6 from the plate with a pair of walks.  His average rose to .257 and his confidence at the plate looked as good as it has in sometime.

Weeks rewarded his Manager's decision, Saturday, with a pair of hits including the game winning RBI in a 5-4 win over the New York Yankees.  Roenicke decided to roll the dice Sunday and give Weeks another start and he did not disappoint.  Weeks was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and scored the winning run in the bottom of the 9th for a 6-5 victory over New York.

Sunday was just the 8th start for Weeks in 2014 and his first against a right handed starting pitcher.  His previous seven (including Saturday) were against lefties in his platoon with Scooter Gennett.

With his average now sitting at .318 on the season, Weeks may be forcing Roenicke to pencil him into the lineup more often.  Roenicke was asked about that after Sunday's win:

"The next two days definitely are left handers, he'll be in there anyway, and we'll try to slot him in there against the right handers" Roenicke answered. "But he's hot.  He's really having good at-bats and we need the offense."

The Brewers are tied with San Francisco for the National League's best record at 24-14.  After an off day Monday, the Pittsburgh Pirates visit Miller Park Tuesday for the opener of a 3-game series.
