WIAA membership puts multiplier plan on hold

A proposal that would have implemented a 1.65 multiplier to private-schoolWIAA logo enrollment for tournament placement purposes, has been put on hold.

On a 352-77 vote at Wednesday’s annual meeting, the WIAA membership has called for the creation of an ad-hoc committee to further study the issue.  That committee has been charged with coming up with recommendations to the executive staff by September 1, with a final recommendation due by December 1.

The goal is to have a proposal ready for a vote at the 2015 annual meeting with possible implementation for the 2015-16 school year.

The matter of divisional placement came to a head because of an amendment proposed by the Six Rivers Conference, that if passed, would have added a 1.65 multiplier to private-school enrollment for tournament placement.  That amendment never drew a vote.

WIAA officials said 443 of the organization’s schools were in attendance for Wednesday’s meeting.  It’s the highest attendance figure for an Annual Meeting ever.

Conference formation

An amendment that would have given individual schools control over conference formation and affiliation failed overwhelmingly, by a vote of 400-26.

In a nutshell, the vote keeps the WIAA in charge in terms of conference formation.
