Cardinals end Brewers 9-game win streak

The Milwaukee Brewers managed just 3-hits last night and saw their 9-game win streak come to end, falling to the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 at Miller Park.

Lance Lynn and Carlos Martinez shut the Brewers lineup down, handing Milwaukee its first defeat since April 2nd.

Matt Garza lost his Brewers debut 1-0 to the Atlanta Braves on that day.  He took the loss last night as well, surrendering a second inning solo home run to Jhonny Peralta and a three-run blast off the bat of Jon Jay in the 6th.

But Garza has had no support at all.  He’s pitched 15-innings in two games at Miller Park and hasn’t received a single run from the Brewers offense.

Garza allowed nine hits and a walk while striking out six last night.  But his counterpart, Lance Lynn (3-0) struck out nine Brewers and issued three walks.

The Brewers best scoring chance came in the fifth when Scooter Gennett coaxed a 2-out walk and Logan Schafer followed with a double to right.  But the double never hit a gap or made it to the wall, so Gennett was held at third.  Matt Garza was next and struck out.

The four earned runs allowed by Garza snapped a 26-game streak in which Milwaukee pitchers had allowed three or fewer earned runs, which is a franchise record.

Marco Estrada (1-0, 2.31) pitches game two of the series for the Brewers tonight.  Shelby Miller (0-2, 6.35) goes for the Cardinals.
