Brewers pitching leads sweep over Red Sox

This was supposed to be a memorable weekend for the Boston Red Sox.  It started Friday, as the Red Sox received their World Series Championship rings, only to see the Milwaukee Brewers steal the show.  The Brewers followed that up with an extra inning win on Saturday night.  They completed the sweep with a 4-0 shutout over Boston on Sunday.

It’s the first Brewers sweep of the Red Sox since 1993 and the pitching staff gets much of the credit.  They allowed just three earned runs against the Red Sox all weekend.

In the first six games of the season in which the Brewers went 4-2, the Brewers pitching staff has a 1.45 team earned run average, which leads the Majors.

Yovani Gallardo earned the victory yesterday, working 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball to improve to 2-0.  Gallardo extended his scoreless innings streak to 12 2/3 innings.

After going hitless in the Atlanta series, Brewers outfielder Khris Davis went 8 for 15 with four doubles and six runs scored against Boston.

The Brewers were scheduled to face Philadelphia in the Phillies home opener today.  But projected inclement weather forced the postponement of the game, which will now be played tomorrow at 3:05pm.  Tomorrow was originally planned as an off day.
