Garza loses no-hitter and game to Atlanta (Audio)

Matt Garza wowed the home crowd in his first start in a Milwaukee Brewers uniform.  Unfortunately for both, the Brewers lost to the Atlanta Braves 1-0 in a classic pitchers duel at Miller Park.

Garza held the Braves hitless through 6 2/3 innings before Chris Johnson clubbed a solo home run to left-center that provided Atlanta with the only run they would need to win.

Garza said he wasn’t thinking about a no-hitter at the time, but was instead thinking about staying aggressive.

Atlanta starter Aaron Harang was equally as impressive, taking a no-hitter into the 7th himself.  His no-hit bid ended 2-outs sooner than Garza’s though.  Logan Schafer broke it up with a leadoff single to center.  But Harang got some help from the bullpen to get out of the 7th and earns the victory.

Garza ended up pitching the 8th inning as well, finishing his day by allowing a run on two hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Craig Kimbrel retired the Brewers in the 9th to earn his second straight save.

The Brewers have scored just four runs in three games and come out of the series against Atlanta with a 1-2 record.

The Brewers get the day off on Thursday.  They’ll head to Fenway Park in Boston to open a series against the Red Sox on Friday night.
