Seattle claims first Super Bowl title

The Seattle Seahawks are champions of the National Football League with a 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday night.  In the battle of Denver's top-ranked offense versus Seattle's top-ranked defense, the latter held Denver quarterback Peyton Manning to 280 yards passing and a touchdown while registering four turnovers en route to their first NFL championship in team history.  Seattle's defense also tallied a safety only 12 seconds into the game, helped by a bad center-snap exchange from Denver's Manny Ramirez to Manning, that would be the fastest score at the start of a Super Bowl.  The only score for Denver was a 14-yard touchdown pass from Peyton Manning to Demaryius Thomas on the last play of the third quarter.  Seattle linebacker Malcolm Smith received the game's MVP award, becoming only the third linebacker and eighth defensive player in Super Bowl history to receive the honor.  Smith was one of the stars on defense for the Seahawks after returning an interception for a touchdown in the first half, and also recovering a fumble in the second half.  Former Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson led the Seahawks on offense going 18 of 25 for 206 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
