Women’s hoops – Badgers fall, Phoenix wins

Michala Johnson scored 19 points in the first half and finished with 26 for the game, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Wisconsin Badgers from a 71-67 loss to Michigan State in Big Ten women’s basketball at the Breslin Center in East Lansing on Thursday night.

The loss drops the Badgers to 9-11 overall (2-6 Big Ten), while Michigan State is 14-7 overall (6-2 Big Ten).

Morgan Paige added 16 for the Badgers, who shot 48% from the field in the loss.

The Badgers host Ohio State on Sunday (2pm) at the Kohl Center.


Green Bay Phoenix win

In Rochester, Michigan, the Green Bay Phoenix women closed the first half on a 24-9 run and went on to beat Horizon League newcomer Oakland, 74-58 on Thursday night.

Freshman Mehryn Kraker (West Allis, Wis.) the Phoenix improved to 11-7 overall and 4-2 in Horizon League action.
