Gardner reaches 1,000 points in Marquette win

Davante Gardner led the charge with a new career-high 28 points as part of a comeback win for the Marquette Golden Eagles as they defeated the De Paul Blue Demons 66-56 on Saturday at the Bradley Center.  Struggling throughout the season with playing time, Gardner made his first start of the season and with the career effort also became the 45th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points.  After Gardner's baseline lay-in gave Marquette their first lead of the game at 44-43 with 7:38 to go, Marquette closed out the game with a 22-13 run en route to their first Big East conference win of the season.  Jamil Wilson and Todd Mayo were the only other Golden Eagles in double-figures with 14 and 10 points respectively. De Paul's Cleveland Melvin led the Blue Demons with 22 points.

Marquette hits the road on Thursday to face the Xavier Musketeers.  Game starts with tip-off at 8pm, pre-game start at 7:30pm on 95.3-WSCO.
